The seminars planned for Archaeology Week (April 11-17) went well! Thank you to those who attended!
In conjunction with the 2005 Montana Archaeology Week, three programs were held in Missoula.
Maria Craig, archaeologist with the Missoula Field Office of the Bureau of Land Management, hosted a sack lunch
seminar at noon on Tuesday, April 12, in the conference room at the Bureau of Land Management. Craig discussed
the archaeological investigations and stabilization of cabin 12 in Garnet Ghost Town during the fall of 2004.
The Philip L. Wright Zoological Museum at the University of Montana sponsored two presentations on
zooarchaeology at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 13. Shannon Gilbert, project archaeologist for Brian F. Smith and
Associates, gave a talk on "Zooarchaeology: Using Animal Remains from Archaeological Sites to Understand
Human Prehistory." Immediately following Gilbert's presentation, UM graduate student Jon Hardes presented the
results of his research on the bones recovered from Pictograph Cave near Billings. The talks were held in Room 411
of the Health Sciences Building. An informal tour of the Philip L. Wright Zoological Museum was available following
the presentations.
